International Mentorship and Orientation Committee aims to help international students adjust to their new life at Penn through organizing the International Mentorship Program as well as International Student Orientation. The IMO committee also hosts regular gatherings for international students to bond.
The IMO committee runs the International Mentor Program, which aims to help the transition of incoming freshman into Penn. We pair incoming international freshman with upperclassmen in order to help answer all their questions and worries. Throughout the year, we plan various events to bring together international freshman and to encourage mentor-mentee bonding. In the past, ice-skating, restaurant nights and much more have been organized. This year we hope to continue this tradition.
The IMO committee is also responsible for planning and executing International Student Orientation (ISO). Members of the IMO committee and the AIS at large have an incredible opportunity to redefine ISO! In the last few years, we have successfully re-branded ISO as an integral part of New Student Orientation and have effectively lobbied to include it in the main NSO schedule, allowing the maximum number of incoming students to benefit from it. Once our ISO 2014 page is set up, it will be a fantastic resource for you as you settle in, giving you information about public transport, the Philly social scene and food, and important Penn-related information!
Recently IMO lead the International Yield Project along with the admissions office to reach out to the newly admitted international students from the Class of 2020. We reached out to various cultural groups on campus so that prospective students can be contacted by someone from their region.
