Winter Break Housing: Sign up!

Housing Services, The Assembly of International Students, and the Undergraduate Assembly have come together in a joint effort to match students who are in need of housing over winter break with potential hosts living in high rises, which will remain open during the holidays.

You might have plans to travel, visit relatives and friends or stay in the area to celebrate the holidays. However, if you are living in the following buildings on-campus, you must leave your room by NOON on DECEMBER 23, 2009. (These buildings will reopen for January “Move-In,” on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 9 am.):

* Hill College House
* King’s Court English College House
* Quad College Houses: Fisher Hassenfeld, Riepe, Ware
* Stouffer College House: Stouffer Hall and Mayer Hall
* Gregory College House: Van Pelt Manor and Class of 1925
* W. E. B. Du Bois College House

If you don’t know anyone in the high rises and can’t find any other alternatives for winter break housing, sign up using this form. Although we cannot guarantee that we can place you in a room over winter break, we will try to put you in contact with students who have volunteered to host their fellow students in their rooms over the holidays.

SIGN UP TO BE A GUEST

If you are living in one of the high-rises (Harnwell, Harrison, Rodin, Samson East and West), volunteer to host someone in your room over the winter break!

Year after year, international students lose access to their residences during the holidays. We implore you to help us end this cycle of appalling – albeit brief – “homelessness” by sharing your own abode!

You can register up until December 22, however, if you and a potential guest have already made an agreement to use your space during the upcoming Winter Break, please visit the Information Center of the host building to fill out the proper host documentation. For details on Hosting Rules and Regulations, please visit the following website: http://www.business-ervices.upenn.edu/housing/winterbreak.html.

SIGN UP TO HOST - Note that you do NOT need to be on campus to host your guest.

2010 AIS Executive Board

Hello everyone,

It is my pleasure to announce the Assembly of International Students’ new Executive Board! Please join me in welcoming:

President: Carol Costa (costac@sas.upenn.edu)
Executive Vice-President: Florentina Dragulescu (fdrag@sas.upenn.edu)
Vice-President of External Affairs: Gandharv Bedi (gandharv@wharton.upenn.edu)
Treasurer: Chloe Ho (chloeho@sas.upenn.edu)
Secretary: Cynthia Ip (cynip@sas.upenn.edu)

This marks the end of an incredibly fruitful and successful year for the Assembly of International Students. In just one year we passed a UA resolution on International Student Housing, launched the second round of the International Mentor Program, ran International Student Orientation social events, held a seat on the University Council, started a Spring Fling BBQ tradition, and thrown multiple and successful parties both on-campus and downtown, to name a few successes in this past year. We have truly made great leaps and bounds to benefit the international student community and none of that would have been possible without the help and support of all of AIS members and Steering Committee members. I am confident that this new board will take AIS to new heights in the coming year and am excited to see what’s in store for AIS!

It has been an absolute pleasure serving you all this past year as President and AIS, no matter what, will continue to be a huge part of my life at Penn. Please join me in thanking the outgoing board and welcoming the new board of AIS!

Best,

Trixie Canivel
